worth a look: scientific animation
I wanted to take a minute to step outside the architecture/real estate/interior design realm by posting an interesting animation that I came across today. It is a 4-minute clip describing Curiousity, the next Mars rover mission. Not only is it an amazing (and super easy-to-understand) explanation worth sharing, but it’s also worth noting that it was created using Lightwave 3D, the same software that we use at Capital Pixel to create architectural visualizations.
One of the greatest parts about 3D animation is that it allows complex information, and events that we could not otherwise imagine, to be broken down into simple visuals that make sense to nearly everyone.

1442 Harvard Street NW – Crimson House
Here’s the latest rendering for Crimson House, located at 1442 Harvard St Nw (map). This 5-unit condo conversion, developed by CAS Riegler, is set to deliver this summer of 2012. Each unit has at least 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, as well as some outdoor space, with select units featuring a loft-style bedroom with a walk-out roof deck. Great location just a half-block from 14th Street!
If you want to read more about the developers, read a recent interview with them from Urban Turf.
Here’s a current view of the street.

Newport Tower
Here’s the latest rendering for Newport Tower, a project by Lock 7 Development located at 1120 Rhode Island Avenue NW (map). The renovation will bring eight new condo units, and is set to deliver this summer. For this image, several paint-color schemes were investigated before settling on this grey and blue combination. Also note the gold paint accents, which will really bring out the intricate details in the trim on the building.
Here’s how the building looks now, as renovations begin.
You can read more about the project at Curbed DC, Urban Turf, or on Lock 7′s blog.
